Stock Units Department

The Stock Units Department isn't part of the tour, but is an essential place on the Front Lot.

Large rectangular wooden screens called "Flats" are used to make walls for a movie or TV set. In many cases these flats are re-used over and over again, and are redecorated or repainted as necessary.

Other Stock Units are used in different combinations to change the look of buildings on the backlot. The Psycho house, for example, was originally constructed from stock units. The same units were used to build the Harvey house on Colonial Street.

There's also a massive stock of the hardware regularly used on movie sets such as Steeldeck used to make platforms of various heights (shown bottom right).

The storage facility used by the Stock Units Department (shown bottom centre) is a former soundstage. There were originally two similar stages side by side, which were used for classic TV shows in the 1980s - Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers etc.
