Warner Bros Backlot

As well as the 29 soundstages, the Warner Bros Studio also has a 20-acre backlot with a wide range of types of location.

Ashley Boulevard / Brownstone Street

Originally erected in the 1930’s, this block of upscale residential walkups captures the unique personalities of many famous cities. It was renamed Ashley Boulevard in 2002. The timeless qualities of the walk-up style brownstone apartments and daylight basement units keep this facade street in high demand for feature and television production.
The centre apartment has an interior staircase leading to the second floor with a practical landing.

Hennesy St. / Tenement St.

Originally known as ‘Tenement Street’, this horseshoe shaped area was renamed in memory of Dale Hennesy, the production designer of the big-budget musical Annie (1982) as this street was redesigned for that movie. Mr Hennesy died partway through the production of the movie, and for the rest of the production period, Gene Callahan took over the design role.
The area is characterized by its Lower-East-Side-themed alleys with fire escapes and storefront windows and has since been used for such features as Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and the Batman films. The Chinatown sequence at the start of Gremlins (1984) was also shot here, and the shop adjacent to the staircase which Mr Peltzer descended to buy the Mogwai in that movie is named Mogwai.

Jungle / Lagoon

This versatile location includes a large lagoon with a shore-side cabin, roadhouse and barn. These areas are all connected by a dirt road and surrounded by verdant jungle of foliage. Originally built for Alan Ladd’s production of Santiago – this set can be a tropical paradise, murky swamp or lush forest. Since its original construction, the jungle has been used in productions as diverse as Camelot, Private Benjamin with Goldie Hawn, Fantasy Island, China Beach and numerous commercials starring alligators and frogs. The Roadhouse, barn and cabin have practical interiors. The Waltons House was originally situated here, but was moved in 1992 after a fire to the Warner Ranch.

Warner Village

This collection of residential houses was built in 2004 on the site of the Laramie Street Western sets.

A crescent shaped residential street set in a woodland environment. This set has eleven two-story homes in a variety of styles, sidewalks, plush green lawns, driveways and garages. From certain angles you have the Hollywood Hills as your backdrop and from others lush established trees and a small neighborhood park. This location is a favourite for commercials and still photo shoots.
This area was built in 2004 when the Western Laramie Street (see above) was demolished. In it’s last 3 years, the Western set had only been used for 10 days, and it had no running water or electricity. As well as the exteriors on the residential street, the Village provides around 42,000 square feet of valuable office space. Entrances to the offices are in the rear of the residences so writers and production staff can go about their business without disturbing filming at the front of the properties.
