{"id":5122,"date":"2016-04-06T02:11:27","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T01:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thestudiotour.com\/wp\/?page_id=5122"},"modified":"2024-07-02T00:41:26","modified_gmt":"2024-07-01T23:41:26","slug":"rockslide","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.thestudiotour.com\/wp\/studios\/universal-studios-hollywood\/theme-park\/attractions\/the-studio-tour\/past-studio-tour\/rockslide\/","title":{"rendered":"Rockslide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Dates: 1974 &#8211; 1978<\/h3>\n<p>Added to the Studio Tour in 1974 (timed with the release of&nbsp;<em>Earthquake<\/em>&nbsp;that same year), this unique (and short-lived) attraction must have seemed like such a good idea at the time.<\/p>\n<p><em>As the tram approaches a quiet Californian hillside, a rumbling sound is followed by a terrifying rockslide which threatens to engulf the tram with massive boulders.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Press Release from 1976<\/strong><br \/>\nThe giant rockslide is another of the thrilling special effects designed to give visitors a personal demonstration of how it&#8217;s done in the movies.<br \/>\nAs the tram passes below a rocky hillside on the Tour route, the earth grumbles and groans. All of a sudden the top of the hill begins to crumble and styrofoam boulders careen down the hill. The rockslide is completely recyclable and the entire process takes only 90 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Universal Studios Hollywood - Rockslide\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eJP2KmXdgfY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- Front page - 1 (mobile, www.thestudiotour.com) -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4232509073418529\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1109063098\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<p>The photos below show the main problem with this part of the Studio Tour &#8211; fake rocks just don&#8217;t do what they&#8217;re supposed to in the script.<\/p>\n<p>ngg_shortcode_0_placeholderJust above the rocky wall immediately beside the tram is a metal scoop bucket which collects the rocks and then transports them back up the hillside where they sit on a tilting platform until they&#8217;re required to perform again. The mechanism was quite slow, meaning there was a few minutes between shows while the scoop travelled up the hill collecting rocks, before moving back down the hill to it&#8217;s initial resting place.<br \/>\nThe other problem was more to do with the absorbent quality of the materials used to make the rocks.
