This $175 million production was shooting around the studio for a considerable time. A portion of the Ark was built on Falls Lake, and sections were built in front of special effects bluescreens on a number of soundstages. Key stages used were Stage 12 (top section of Evan's Ark) and Stage 27 (ark interior).

The 'Ark Construction Site' as featured in the movie was in Crozet, Virginia.
