New Metropolitan sets open tomorrow

Postby TramDriverBill » Fri Dec 18, 2009 10:58 pm

Just got word that the new metropolitan street sets reopen to the trams tomorrow morning. Should be very interesting as the street layout and sets are really different than before, with the exception of Courthouse Square.

Postby gpiltz » Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:03 am

Thanks for the update Bill. I'll be at the studio on December 26th so it'll be great to see them fresh before production teams get to them.

Anyone on the board who already ahs pictures, please post them!

Happy Holidays, everyone, and Happy New Year-niversal!

The sets look GREAT, especially the London Square area. Still to be completed are the new modern glass and steel skyscraper section off of New England street.

Why is there a trailer behind the Motel? Did they mention any filming in the area?

Probably for the Whoville cast to take a break.

As promised, did the Privately Guided tour today. This one was just as enjoyable if a bit all over the place! Last time it was orderly: front lot, mill, backlot, prop warehouse, more backlot. This time we didn't go to the Mancini building at all; we went to stage 29, mill, backlot, props, walked the lot/ Whoville then back to stage 1. A lot of the studio was breaking early and having potlucks for the holidays. We crashed two lunches!!

Matthew was the guide and David the driver. I stayed clammed up while he passed along some info WE all know is wrong. But hey, are the tourists even going to remember those 'facts'? Probably not. This time there were 10 of us! When I did the tour the first time it was only 3. The hit of this tour for the others was the prop warehouse. My favorite was getting to be inside stage 1! As usual, the set is smaller then it appears on TV but what really surprised me was the set was laid out from north to south (Conan faces west, the audience faces east). Also, a portion of the audience seating is actually in the new structure built alongside the stage. They must have a lot of space backstage!

The New York sets are spectacular! On the east end of the street they've recreated Macy's. It appears there are now two Broadway theatres next to each other. As TramDriverBill mentioned, the London area is fantastic! The very large wall that blocks the hillside will be painted with a mural.

The exterior framing for the Kong stage has started to go up. Yes, the Collapsing Bridge is closed due to the construction.

We almost got to WALK on Wisteria Lane but the production closed the street unexpectedly. The Whoville scene is cute!

Pictures soon!
