Virtual backlot ===== "Just Imagine"
== Go green -- NBC-Universal Focus

Backlot Sets Go Green after the backlot fire.

======= Courthouse Square saved by Fire wall
Image

Fast track the rebuilding of Courthouse Square and Brownstone street.

Cargo containers would make a make a great fire wall around the standing sets.

Image

A cargo container fire wall can be moved, as the layout of the standing sets are required to be changed.

A moveable metal fire wall between the film vault and the New York street area would provide a measure of fire protection vs water sprinkler systems in the sets.

Containing the spread of fire on the backlot maybe an approach that should be tested on the backlot.

The use of cargo container for movie sets is not a new idea, Universal has used this approach with the movie " Val Helsing".

=== Studio tour

VIP backlot tour on small golf cars, could have special roadways between the streets of standing sets, the roadway would allow more access to areas were filming is taking place.

Load your golf car at prop plaza - closeup view of the sets with your guide.
Tour wisteria Lane in VIP golf cart - Be like an invited guest between the time the crews are setting up fro the next shot. Visit the closed set with out eh noise o the trams and trolleys.
Have a special lunch at the prop plaza lookout point - rest stop for the VIP trolley ride from the upper lot.
Fire Safety
Roadways behind the standing sets, would act as a second level of preventing the spread of fire on the backlot.

Paint the containers green - so that CGI methods could be used to complete the second level the brownstone set.

Is it time for a new approach to the building of exterior standing sets on a backlot?

Stock units - could be stored inside the containers, Could Cargo conatiners replace production trailers.

Would a container wall prevent unauthotized pciture taking as happened with the filming of Indiana Jones?

=========== Please anyone expand on these ideas=====
Save the environment, save money $$$ , use digital methods to create a smaller foot print of wooden standing sets. and prevent fire spreating in a modern studio lot and try new ideas for VIP studio tour access and transportation roadways.

The container idea is a very good one and has been proven on other sets. Too bad they didn't include it in the new Metro sets.
While the golf cart idea sounds fun it could never happen on a film lot due to liability issues and producer control of closed sets. There is already a huge problem in most of the SoCal studios with golf carts being driven into prohibited areas by people who think that the cart gives them full access. Though it is kind of fun when some clueless golf cart tries to enter King Kong ahead of a Super Tram and finds that they are trapped.....
